I've had this strand of rose quartz beads laying around in my craft supplies. I bought them wholesale back when I designed and sold my own jewelry, but you can find the same these days in the bead section of your craft store. I simply looped the ends through a heart charm from Michael's that says "I am Blessed" on one side and "Faith" on the other. I think my daughter will love it on Valentine's Day!

Tutorial: Glossy Bookmark or Magnet Gift
Lots of you wanted to know how to do them, so I put together this tutorial. Also, this glossy top is a terrific and versatile supply you'll want in your craft arsenal!! :-)The bookmarks were #5 on my list of DIY Meaningful Christmas, to help out a local charity in lieu of Secret Santa or gift exchanges with friends. My "Girls' Night Out" group made 50 scripture bookmarks, 40 of which were gifted to the clients of our local crisis pregnancy center. 10 ladies helped that night and they each got one to take home, too. We all brought appetizers and crafted, chatted and snacked away about 3 hours. We got the bookmarks completed up to where the top coat needed to dry for several hours. The next day a couple of us strung the ribbon, beads & charms.

Supplies needed for each:
wood rectangle, square or other shape
craft glue
drill and small drill bit if your wood piece doesn't have a hole
paint (optional)
pretty paper
printer or stamp to do scripture verse
scissors or paper cutter
Glossy Accents
cross charm
3-5 assorted beads with big holes
~24" of 1/8" width ribbon
1/8" hole punch
Because our bookmarks were for a charity, and the ladies donated their time and money, we needed to keep our cost down. We managed to do ours for about $2 each. I found these magnetic alphabet wood tiles from Michael's. They're about 1" x 2" . We also used some squares that just came in a package of assorted sized squares - of which we just used the largest size. Be sure they are big enough to fit a scripture. You can find shapes with nicer wood than these if you don't have to work in bulk or keep to a strict budget.
The top row shows the front of the magnetic rectangle; the back; and the back after I drilled a small hole and painted over it in white to give it a more finished look. The second row shows the square as we bought it, then with the hole drilled. Since our wood shapes were thin, we also needed to do a teensy bit of sanding touch-up. So, gather your pieces and drill holes if needed for a bookmark:
Now gather the rest of the pretties: I printed our verse (Romans 15:13 "May the God of HOPE fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.) on assorted colors of pretty scrapbooking papers. Cut them all just a bit smaller than your wood backing:
Now, if you're making a bookmark, punch a hole in the paper for the ribbon, then glue it on the wood. We put ours right over the letters. The blue one is going to be a magnet, so no hole needed:
Once the paper is securely glued and dry, it's time to top it with the Glossy Accents:
I can't stress enough to read their instructions. Don't shake the bottle or you'll get bubbles. Apply it slow or you'll get bubbles. You'll not see these bubbles while you're speeding along and you won't believe me until it's all dried and suddenly there they'll be. Start by going around the border, then fill in slowly and evenly:
Here the blue magnet is done and the pink half way coated. It will be thick and cloudy, but will dry flatter and clear and shiny:
Once dry, the bookmark will need about 24" of ribbon. Twice the length of the average book you read plus extra for tying. Loop it through the scripture piece and add one cross charm and several pretty beads that you'll tie in to stay down at the bottom. Look carefully at the beads before you buy - the hole will have to fit a ribbon. Then tie one large or several smaller beads at the other end. When used in a book, you want just flat ribbon to be laying in the pages, and the pretties hanging out either end. :-)

Mean Green Veggie Machine
They loved it! I loved it! We danced! We hugged! We ate veggies! :-) I put it right up there with hiding spinach in fruit smoothies and pureed carrots in tomato pasta sauces.
Recipe for Broccoli Cheese Soup
INGREDIENTS:
- 6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) butter, room temperature
- 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 large diced red potato
- 6 1/2 cups chicken stock or canned low-salt chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh tarragon or 1/2 teaspoon dried
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 pounds fresh broccoli florets
- 1 large handful fresh spinach leaves
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 6 ounces grated extra-sharp cheddar cheese
- salt & pepper (I use garlic salt)
PREPARATION:Melt butter in heavy medium pot over medium-high heat. Whisk in flour to make roux. Add garlic and sauté about 2 minutes. Add stock, potato and all seasonings; bring to boil. Lower heat, simmer uncovered until potato is fork tender. Add broccoli and spinach, heat for 2 minutes. Stir in cream. Gradually add cheeses until melted.
Pour into blender in batches. Puree until thick and silky smooth. At this point you can heat and serve with extra grated cheese (for the fun of having it melt in) and crusty bread. OR continue on for a grand finale:Preheat broiler. Place 6 oven proof soup bowls on baking sheet. Divide soup among bowls. Sprinkle 1/3 cup cheese over each. Broil until cheese melts and bubbles around edges, about 4 minutes.
.....................
This is the Epicurious recipe I made my Broccoli Cheese Soup variation from. The sharp cheddar adds a lot of flavor. Since I have onionophobia, I always add extra garlic & other seasonings. Seems like you could hardly go wrong if you're pureeing it. We have a Vita-Mix so there was not a single trace of broccoli visible to tip off the kiddos! :-) Yummm ... tasted great for leftovers! How To Create a Little Surfer Boy Bedroom
She was the entertaining proprietor of a fun antique shop in Carpinteria, CA where we picked up this great old surfboard for my little guy's bedroom:
It was all rustic white, which I loved, but I wanted to add something to it. Originally I was going to paint a fun shark logo ... but settled on a classic "Lifeguard" and striped look so he won't outgrow it in a minute. Here is my garage floor painting station:
I typed the lettering on the computer and then used tracing paper to outline them on the board. Good old painter's tape helped me paint straight lines. I'm still undecided on sanding the part I painted so it looks as antiqued as the old white underneath? Should I go for it? I suppose I could try it on one stripe and if it looks terrible I could re-paint, right? :-) Here is it's home on his bedroom wall, right above the surfer dude lamp I made last fall:This footprint art features an old Woody wagon - I bought it at a Piggies & Paws party from my friend Jennifer who is a rep:
I repainted a red TJ's-clearance-aisle fish I had in an office ages ago. Now it suits his beachy blue theme:
Fun starfish pop off the wall above a window:
And finally -- Helloooooooo, Crabby Blue!

Valentine Heart Decor Tutorial
Print "Jesus Loves Me" in white letters on a red background & cut that out in a heart shape. Glue it in the center of a big cardboard heart (We cut ours out of a clean pizza box cover):
Next cut out piles & piles of white and red tissue paper squares:
Use the old-fashioned wrap-each-square-around-the-end-of-a-pencil-and-dab-it-in-some-Elmer's -Glue-method to fill in your Valentine decoration. Be sure to pack them in close so your design looks very full:
Our red heart is framed in white. Finished size is 14" x 15". Add a little wire loop for hanging and you're done!
